Paul and the Elite Squads
This year the Elite Squad had the opportunity to attend a training camp in Rotorua, New Zealand.
We try and do an annual training camp in February for two reasons. One, it's a great time to get a big block of work done, without the distractions of University and being at home. This way the athletes can be 100 percent focused on the training and the necessary recovery. It was also good preparations 6 weeks out from our Olympic/Paralympic Trials.
The second reason is this is a very busy time for the pools in Perth, both Christ Church and HBF Stadium where we train, particularly with School Swimming and Water Polo, so it's an ideal time for us to be out of the way.
These camps would not be possible without the support of KirbySwim and Westside. The majority of funding for this camp has been through our Squad Fundraising, from our Sunday Stroke Clinics and the Regional Clinics we conduct.
This season we conducted 7 Sunday clinics and 4 Regional Clinics, netting over $10,000. We thank both the regional Clubs and the Club Members that have supported this initiative. We really couldn't do it without you.
We didn't have the chance to do much exploring here in New Zealand, however we did visit Waimangu Volcanic Valley for a walk and boat ride through the crater.

Feature: Kane Radford.
Kane has been training with us, coming up two years. In that time he has won a Bronze Medal at the Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii, won the Rottnest Solo Swim and competed at the World Championships in Russia. All this has been working towards the ultimate goal of competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Following the Australian Open Water Championships, Kane was selected to represent New Zealand at the final Olympic Qualifier in Portugal in June. At this event he needs to finish in the Top 9 countries represented and earn his berth for Rio.
Join me in wishing Jane all the best for his training over the coming months as he embarks on this final step towards qualification.
