Outstanding Results at Short Course State Championships!
President's Report The 2016 season has begun shortly after a terrific performance from the Open, Age and Juniors at the State Short Course meets. A big well done to all the medal winners and all the swimmers producing career best times in their events. It was a great result for the club and our coaching team. A special congratulations to Kai Wylie and Paige Flowerdew for their Golden efforts at the Junior States.
I would like to welcome all of our new members and thank our Club Committee members. Our club would not be able to function without these great parents offering their valuable time to support our communities swimming club program. Special thanks to Danielle Reynolds, Emma Richards, Victoria Collins and Jennifer Popham for putting their hands up and assisting us with small projects. Our Junior Excellence measure of Gold standard swimmers out-performed most of Perth’s bigger clubs with the ratio of Gold Level JX recipients – great work Carlos and Poppy for their record number of swimmers recognized in JX awards that are given out annually. Paul’s group have been busy again competing and performing well both here and overseas, with Kat recently returning from a National Swim Camp held at the AIS in Canberra where she was able to take advantage of some world class sports science and coaching. Paul’s group have started their season with a pledge of 100% attendance in the lead up to the Summer WA State Championships as they prepare for what is an exciting year ahead moving toward Rio 2016. Up and coming this season we have the Southside Vs Westside interclub meets being run at Christ Church and Penrhos (the next meet being held this Sunday morning). These are a great way for our junior swimmers to experience some race practice against interclub rivals in a short and fun meet format. We had a great turn out at the one held at CCGS a few weeks back and I noticed some really great efforts. The Swim Stars pilot program is also being held at the moment and is geared toward non-club members and those club members yet to achieve AA times. Westside and 3 other Metro clubs are all hosting a meet each with the aim to promote club swimming and provide fun race meets for our swimmers. Over the weekend just gone SWA held the annual coaching and club conference at UWA and we had 4 of our coaches in attendance to hear from Swimming QLD President, the SAL Head Coach as well as Leigh Nugent the former Head Coach of Swimming Australia. The SWA AGM was also held with two new board members being elected (Lara Carol and Travis Nederpelt- both former Olympians). To all our swimmers and parents I would like to wish you all the best with the up coming season.
